Isabel Pathirane: MULTICOLOUR EXPANSE

MULTICOLOUR EXPANSE

Chaos of all colours, an illogical mosaic, like music without a system. Yet it is not discordant.

Colour cannot be controlled, it spreads out according to its own rules. Traces are born, and they disappear and reappear. Colour is a tangible sensation and an expanding atmosphere. Colour is an indeterminate state that dissipates in abundance.

"I haven't often used yellow as the main subject in my paintings, but this summer, in the light of summer, yellow, or yellows, have risen up to oppose blue. And the greens, they come from what's around me. In the paintings, the reflections of the surroundings turn into something that resembles technobabies in the pulse of strobe lights that last until dawn.

I've painted outside and I've painted in a shed, been lost and found my way back by chance. The passage of light defines time, but I forget that. Forgetting is a throwing away, and throwing away is a discovery. Acceptance of the uncontrollable is necessary."

The exhibition is an image of colour as such, of the possibilities of painting and of the eternal impossibility in which meanings recreate themselves.
