Trash Art Collage and Painting Workshop

Sat 15.7.2023 13:00 - 18:00

For this workshop we will explore painting and collage via found "trash" materials. Participants may bring their own old magazines, cardboard packaging, plastic bags, fabric, or anything else that is not too "precious" that we can cut up, paste together and paint on top of. Participants may work individually or collaboratively to construct their own artwork. We will question ideas about "good" and "bad" art.

A major focus of the class will be breaking down pre-conceived ideas about how our artwork "should" look. Rather than a canvas or paper, we will start with the found trash materials as the base of our artworks. We will draw on top of the collage with marker or paint, maybe paste more collage on top of that, or tear layers off to reveal what is underneath.

We can also consider making "bad art". What would it look like if you let yourself make something that is not "good"? Regardless of skill level, we will work together to get out of our comfort zones and expand our ideas about art-making.

Supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own found collage materials like old newspapers, magazines, cardboard, styrofoam or plastic packaging, fabric or anything else we can tear up, break, paste together and paint on as a group. You may also bring unwanted paints, nail polish or other mark-making implements you would like to use or share.

The course is organized at Yö Galleria. Instruction is given in English.
